Just spiffing up the joint a bit...

Finally figured it was time to spiff up this place and make it purty (well at least to me), so that I might be more tempted to post here in the future. Actually I sort have an idea for it, but it's not really and idea, it's more like post whatever I feel like at the random I decide to post...anyways...

Long time no post

One blog is enough I think...well at least recently, hence the reason I haven't been updating this one. Although do not expect this blog to go away. It shall remain where it is, whether I update it rarely or often simply because some things I want to talk about simply don't fit at Naveed's Realm. For instance, my recent obsession with Magic the Gathering, which really isn't a new thing (been addicted to collectible card games, or CCGs off and on for over a decade), but recently I've been thinking about getting a bit more serious in collecting Magic, at least for a bit, so I can play in a few tournaments just for the fun of it. I've even been reading up on the rules I've been confused on over the last decade or so and collecting newer cards so I can play in standard format tournaments. Although, I do need to cut back on what I've been spending on these cards recently...it gets addictive.

Oh yeah, before I go here is one of the Thunderbird pictures I snapped and mentioned over at The Realm, for all of you to look at.

There are few other really good ones, but they are on my wife's laptop right now and not on my PC yet.

What am I doing?

I really don't know. I started this blog to ramble, but it's not been working lol. New idea though...focus! Just like my other blog...in fact I'm thinking about turning this into an dinosaur/cephalopod/weird critter themed deal...I think...not to sure. Although I'm thinking about doing the Random Cephalopod Goodness I did at the Realm again...except on this blog instead...gimme a day and I'll get it all figured out...

Of course...I could just delete this...all it takes is a touch of a virtual button...1...2...3...hahaha fooled you all! Anyways...something is coming...I just don't know what yet.

Severe Storm

Well today here in Hillsboro we had a sever storm pass over us. They were saying on the weather that there is a slight chance of tornadoes as well and I actually managed to capture some pics of what I first thought was a failed funnel cloud.

There more pics then this, but they all show the same thing. However I sent them to my father who used to be a storm chaser when I was growing up in Colorado. He told me that in fact this is actually a cloud tag (or is it tag cloud?) which resembles a funnel cloud, but isn't the same thing, and not dangerous (meaning no chance of forming a tornado). Still a bit dramatic looking though and apparently often mistaken for funnels.

A pirates life for me! YAR!

Aye, I be a search'n fer some pirate garb and what not and noticed that those who dress as pirates tend to divide pirate costuming into two groups. Hollywood pirates authentic pirates. Fantasy/cliche vs historically accurate basically. There aren't really any disadvantages to either however, unless you want to do historically accurate reenactments.

For myself, I'm gonna go more "Hollywood" pirate simply because I don't want to fully go for the realistic historical look. Plus I can have some more freedom with the costume that way when I get things a rolling on it. Also since I really don't intend on joining any groups (at least not yet) and it's gonna be for fun, it doesn't matter to much, but it will still be recognizably pirate. Much like my cheap $5 party store hat that you see me wearing on my Facebook badge on the right side panel there, but better and more movie like.

Speaking of my crappy hat, I'm thinking about modifying it to make it look nicer, but I don't know how well that will work. Although there are a few places out there that I can get a better hat from...even a cheap actual tricorn.

Anyways...thats enough of my dreaming for now...

It's all about me

Gosh that sounds selfish, but it's true. I made a quiz on Facebook all about me! I invited all my friends on their to take it. Let's see who really knows me...hahaha!

Aside from that, I've got tomorrow off work, which means...well nothing other then the fact I get to stay up late tonight. Hmmm...maybe real late and I'll blog again on Naveed's Realm (already did once today) or over at UFO Magazine Blog.

I do believe I need to invest in both a new keyboard and mouse soon as well. Keys are kinda sticky on the keyboard and the mouse has...well it has issues...

And here is a video I found over at The Pink Tentacle, some kind of super organism that reminds me of something out of an H.P. Lovecraft story.

14 more days till Towel Day!

May 25th is Towel Day, the one day where you can carry a towel around with you anywhere you go and not be considered nuts. Well at least by others who are carrying towels around all day that day, who happen to be fans of Douglas Adams, the genius behind the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (H2G2).

So for those uninitiated into the awesome world of Douglas Adams' and H2G2, here is a quote from the series:

"A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value - you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand-to- hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or to avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mindboggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you - daft as a bush, but very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitch hiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitch hiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is is clearly a man to be reckoned with."

From The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Besides carrying a towel around for it's usefulness on May 25th however, people carry one as a tribute to Douglas Adams (3-11-52 to 5-11-01). In some cases do some bizarre, yet funny things such as these German dudes who mix a crazy Japanese song with Towel Day:
